Nineteen renowned Northern businessmen made significant contributions to the Union war effort. Their companies benefited from the need for goods during the four-year conflict. John Deere, Cyrus McCormick, Gail Borden, Edward Squibb, Philip Armour, Andrew Carnegie, Frederick Weyerhaeuser, and the Studebaker brothers, as well as other, lesser known, remarkable businessmen will be discussed.
