Commemorating WWII and the Cold War in Berlin: Commemorating the Past to Inform the Future

  • Pennsylvania Military Museum 51 Boal Avenue Boalsburg, PA, 16827 United States (map)

Join the Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum Site Administrator David Blackburn for a lecture exploring the monuments and memorials in Germany’s capital, Berlin, that commemorate the shattering events of World War II and the Cold War. Monuments and memorials placed throughout the city are highly visible and ever-present. These sites and structures commemorate the genocide, destruction, and loss of life that defined Berlin throughout the mid-to-late 20th Century.

Join Mr. Blackburn as he explores the complexities of history, memory, design, and impact of Berlin’s war monuments and memorials. Mr. Blackburn has a BA in Anthropology from the University of Arizona and a MA in Cultural Resource Management from Sonoma State University. After a 34 year career with the National Park Service, Mr. Blackburn came to Landis Valley in November, 2020.

Lecture us free and open to the public, and will take place in the site theater. Donations appreciated.
